Salaam ! And Welcome to the website of the Rasta Mosque of Joseph Smith of Later Day Muslims, a new sect founded in 2004 in St. George, Utah. We are the fastest growing sect in the United States and our mosque now boasts a membership of over 4000.
What is our story ? Well. let me start from the beginning. My name is Raghib Smith. My father was a Mormon as was his father, his father, his father, and so on all the back to Joseph Smith(peace be upon him). My mother was a Muslim descended from the prophet Mohammed(pbuh), and is originally from Mecca, Saudi Arabia. My parents used to fight when I was growing up trying to decide what religion I should become, until it was decided that I should choose myself. This was a tough choice. One week I would be Mormon, the next Muslim. I got my Mormon endowments and went to the temple, and also went on hajj to Mecca to see the Kaaba, but I was still undecided.
It was because of this confusion that I turned to drugs. I used everything- smack, coke, paint thinner, banana peels,gasoline- you name it, I did it. except for one thing. Marijuana. I was always scared of pot, but one day I tried it, and I had an epiphany.The angel Gibreel (known as Moroni in Mormonism) came to me and told me to " enjoy the magic smoke which Allah(swt) has given." I asked what religion I should follow, and the angel said, "There is no Islam, there is no Mormon.) So I then realized- they both contained truth. I would forge a new path which only I as descendent of the two great prophets could. And so the Rasta Mosque of Joseph Smith of Later Day Muslims was born.
